Not too shabby. GameStart 2017 is the fourth year running and has pulled over 24,000 attendees coming from 25 different countries to Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore. The event’s official live stream managed to clock over 80,000 online views from Twitch and Facebook Live.
GameStart 2017 saw the first ever SEA Summit, the event focused on developers and key figures in the gaming industry, as well as showcases of games made in Southeast Asia, Doujin Market featuring various gaming merchandise and art, and a tabletop gaming area.

Level Up KL is the premier games conference in Southeast Asia, and the 2017 edition is stronger than ever. Over 40 key players in the gaming industry were sharing experience through talks. Developers from Naughty Dog, EA Motive, Riot, EA Ghost, and also local developers Streamline Studios were among the many speakers throughout the six-day event.

Wan Hazmer, the Malaysian developer that was part of the team behind Final Fantasy XV and lead designer on Monster Of The Deep Final Fantasy XV, has officially announced his departure from the Japanese developers Square Enix. This was revealed during a panel held at the annual Level Up KL, the conference for South East Asian developers.
Hazmer’s next plan is to start up his own development studio here in Malaysia, in conjunction with MDEC and Level Up Inc sometime this December.

Garena Malaysia today has announced that they will be bringing Tencent’s mobile MOBA game, Arena Of Valor, to Malaysia. The launch will also see Singapore and the Philippines coming, with the three countries sharing servers. Arena Of Valor is the global version of Honor Of Kings, Tencent’s biggest mobile game in China with over 100 million active users.
Arena Of Valor first launched in Taiwan in 2016, the game has slowly expanded in Southeast Asia. Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia are the first countries to receive the game in this region.

Mark this as another big achievement for the local developers here in Malaysia. Yesterday, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) invited the media for a special briefing to highlight two developer teams based in the country that contributed to the development of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Naughty Dog’s DLC-turned-standalone game employed a variety of outsource teams to help its development, which includes Passion Republic- the team that also contributed to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End- and Lemon Sky Studios- a prolific team that recently worked on Starcraft Remastered.

The gaming industry in Southeast Asia is making a big step forward with the introduction of SEA Summit Conference. Organised by GameStart, the inaugural event is business-to-business conference for people in the gaming industry across Southeast Asia to convene. It will be held from 12-13 October 2017 in Pixel Building, Singapore.
