How Gamer Matters Review System Works


Gamer Matters reviews video games as well as gaming-related hardware ranging from laptops to peripherals.

The following is a how the review system in Gamer Matters works.

Video Game Reviews

Video game reviews on Gamer Matters operate on a 10-point scale as per industry standard, but effectively the scale operates in four levels of recommendability.

DLC and expansion reviews are not scored.

Video Game Review Scores

Review scores are derived from a four seperate 10-point scales that constitutes the following category:

Presentation: The appeal of the game in terms of visual and audio. Aspects covered under this category includes visual style, visual fidelity, game performance (framerate), quality of music, music selection, audio quality, voice performance.

Gameplay: The experience of interacting with the game. Aspects covered under this category includes quality of game mechanics and systems, game loop, fun factor, control and game feel, camera.

Content: The non-interactive qualities that makes a game feel worth sinking more time in. Aspects covered under this category includes game length, replayability, story, quality of side content, extra modes and features,

Personal Enjoyment: Entirely subjective score based on reviewer’s preference which can be affected by aspects that includes familiarity with the series, developer, or genre, nitpicks and small cool things.

Hardware Reviews

Similarly, hardware reviews also operate on a 10-point scale based on four scoring criterias. They are:

Hardware: The physical quality of the product. Aspects covered in this category includes build quality, use of materials, exterior look and feel.

Software: The quality of included apps, or the software that powers the software itself.

Gaming Performance: How the hardware affects gaming. For hardware that plays games, this include game performance benchmarks, average play session feel, thermal performance. For peripherals, this measures how it impacts gaming sessions.

Value: How fair the price tag is set compared to the overall product quality.
