Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Reveals Blade, Loki, Deadpool And The Samurai Outriders

The last three of the 16 playable characters, and the last canon 4-character team, for the base game of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls has now been revealed, naturally at Evo 2026.

The best guess anyone had for what does the team led by Ghost Rider will be based on established Marvel team assemblies was the Midnight Sons. But no, here comes the Samurai Outriders with one confirmed member of the Midnight Sons, one one-time member of the Midnight Suns, and Loki.

Blade is supposed to have his own Marvel game developed by Arkane Lyon, but looks like his next video game appearance after Firaxis’ Marvel’s Midnights Suns is here in Marvel Tōkon. The Daywalker has a bit of that samurai flair in this fighting game (as per PlayStation Blog, he was literally studying the blade, the red-tinged Muramasa, in Japan), with an iai, the quick-draw of Blade’s blade like it’s a katana though he does comes with a submachine gun to keep enemies being air juggled in a combo.

Loki is low-key an insane pick, especially since Thor isn’t in the base roster. The mischievous god which the PlayStation Blog makes special note that he is the son of Laufey looks deceptively simple to the untrained eye. His tricks involve a lot of feints and counters, on top of making use of his access to projectiles. This is for the players who have high-execution that can toy with opponent, rather than newbie pickups. He’s also the only one in the team that had no affiliation with the Midnight Sons/Suns in any previous depiction in the team. Magik, who’s on the Unbreakable X-Men, would’ve been here if it was the Midnight Suns. Even Deadpool appeared as a Midnight Sun once.

And last but not least is the merc with the mouth himself, Deadpool. The 4th-wall breaking anti-hero managed to grab a strategy guide for fighting games so now he’s chock-full of references and easter eggs from other fighting games. He did the Jack-O pose, a self-reference in developer Arc System Works’ part after fans and artists noticed how wild that Guilty Gear Strive’s crouching animation looked like. “Toasty!” with the cut-out gag appearing in the lower right of the screen, a nod to the Mortal Kombat series. But what do you mean Deadpool has Dr. Doom’s famous footdive, a move Doom himself doesn’t have here in Marvel Tōkon?!?! Just expect Deadpool, rightfully voiced by Nolan North in English like most of Deadpool’s memorable video game appearances have done so, to throw random bullshit. Not because that’s a silly reference to that one Moon Knight comic panel that gets passed around in socials for a time, but because he’s Deadpool. He did the same when he’s in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, so this is par for the course.
