God Of War Laufey Announced

For the second State Of Play in a row, PlayStation has made Santa Monica Studio hard carry the final reveal. The end of the June 2026 State Of Play broadcast was 20 minutes worth of gameplay for the newly revealed God Of War Laufey.

This entry follows the events of God Of War (2018) from a different perspective, as players take on the role of Faye (also known as Laufey, hence the title) as she enters the afterlife in the Everywhen. Faye was only a plot device in the game with no actual presence, the follow-up God Of War Ragnarok revealed her through flashbacks. So now she gets a starring role, as she discovers the plan she set for Kratos and Atreus are at risk.

The gameplay reveal for God Of War Laufey, which was 20-minutes of uninterrupted gameplay (which blends cinematics through a one-shot-style camerawork so naysayers can argue if every part of it is “gameplay”) is a throwback to God Of War (2018)’s reveal, ten years ago. That was how the major change in tone and story for the character action game (now an action-adventure with RPG elements). Just without the live crowd reaction.

Ten years ago we got Dad Of War, now here comes Mom Of War.

Faye won’t play like Kratos, as she can not only jump but double jump. Mommy got air juggles and combos, though it’s implemented more to look like a character action game, rather than feel like one. Faye also has access to magic, which can detach souls form the body and freezing it in time for a limited-time, enough to hack and slash them to bits.

For those who are impressed by cinematics in video games, God Of War Laufey has one flex: the illusion of Faye putting armour on in-engine in one cut, but not necessarily in full view. Just enough to make you think she actually puts armour on.

God Of War Laufey has no release date, but it’s coming to PS5 eventually.
