PlayStation has revealed the release date of the upcoming fighting game in development with Arc System Works, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, at the February 2026 State Of Play broadcast. We’ll be sparring this August.
The new trailer includes the reveal of a full team of four characters. Tōkon will launch with 20 characters made up of five teams, each team having four members to fit the 4v4 tag fighter format it has going for.
The first of these teams is the Unbreakable X-Men. The team of four mutants is made up of the previously revealed (and iconic) Storm, the appearance of a ol’ fave Wolverine, and relatively new face of the mutants: Magik and Danger.
Wolverine is tough in that he has armour when doing some of his slash attacks, rendering him invincible for a period of time. Magik not only gets to use her big sword, but her portal powers as well to teleport and keep opponents guessing which side of the screen she is at a time. Danger’s arsenal of projectiles will overwhelm opponents with setup mines and zoning fireballs.
(If you feel daunted at how complicated this fighting game looks, don’t. From what we played of the previous beta, even a novice fighting game player who just like the Marvel franchise can have fun pressing buttons.)
The new Marvel Tōkon trailer also confirms the availability of English voiceovers. Previously, the game only presented itself with Japanese voiceovers, as a way to reinforce how this a proudly Japanese take on a Marvel game.
But the EN dub here sounds good: Magik speaks with a Russian accent as she should, and it enabled the opportunity to hear perennial and prolific voice actor Steve Blum saying “You’re cooked, bub!” The game will feature full voice acting in French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Korean and Mandarin on top of English and Japanese. Talk about an assemble.
While you can just pick any character for your specific team, these predefined teams will have their own specific storyline as part of Episode Mode, the game’s single-player campaign where we see these teams of Marvel heroes and villains face a new threat, as penned by writers of Marvel comics. A teaser still shows Captain America, Spider-Man, Dr. Doom and Ghost Rider as leaders of their respective teams. So where would Iron Man, Ms. Marvel and Star-Lord slot in the remaining teams? We’ll find out in due course.

Like most fighting games today (with some exceptions), Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will have post-launch content. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the Year One Character and Stage Pass which will include four new characters and a stage.
Usually, fighting games spread their character drop so one appears each quarter year. We’ll have to wait for more details on that, because if this game follows the regular expected cadence of character releases, it would take a whole year for what one would assume a new team of four to assemble.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls launches on August 6 for the PS5 and PC.
