Sucker Punch wasn’t done with Ghost of Yōtei, but they will soon with the announcement of Ghost Of Yōtei Complete Edition.
This new version of last year’s open world ronin/cowboy/wanderer action adventure adds two new content: Ghost Of Yōtei: Echoes Of Sekigahara expansion and Ghost Of Yōtei: Most Wanted mode.
Ghost Of Yōtei: Echoes Of Sekigahara will see protagonist Atsu meet Nagato, a figure from her past adventures in the mainland. From here, the duo will be exploring “a previously unseen valley once inhabited by The Snake and his loyal followers, the Vipers.” For context, the base game never explored the region and the gang associated with The Snake, who Atsu kills early on in the tutorial of the base game. Every other member of the Yōtei Six has a gang and a region associated with them. Also, expect flashbacks to Atsu’s time in the mainland, which was heavily alluded in the main game.
Echoes Of Sekigahara isn’t as massive as the Ghost Of Tsushima expansion (which came part of Ghost Of Tsushima: Director’s Cut), but it will add new enemies, new heavy weapons, new armor sets, and new dyes, at the very least.
Most Wanted meanwhile is a single-player roguelike survival mode. Each new run, you get bounties to take out, with perks to unlock as you slay your foes. You’re not stuck with Atsu in this game mode, you can play as Oyuki who is a master of the kusarigama, and the new character from the expansion Nagato who is very good with the yari. Atsu, meanwhile, specialises in dual blades. Despite the name, the likelihood of a cameo of a certain car of a German manufacturer that is heavily associated with that phrase is certainly zero. Should be a fun little distraction similar to Days Gone’s extra mode for its PS5 remaster.
On top of the two modes, Ghost Of Yōtei Complete Edition also adds new lo-fi beats for Watanabe Mode, new photo stamps and new cosmetics for New Game+.
Players who already own Ghost of Yōtei can purchase an upgrade to unlock the new DLC and extra content. For those who haven’t purchased the base game and wanted to jump straight with the Complete Edition, purchasing it now will give you access to the base game and the multiplayer Legends mode immediately.
If you’d like to sit out from making more purchases, Sucker Punch is also adding something to Ghost of Yōtei as a free update launching with the Complete Edition. Beauty of Yōtei mode allows you to take “screensaver-like view of the environments of Ezo.” We reckon if you pair this new mode with Watanabe Mode and you get a PS5 version of “Lo-Fi beats to study and chill beats to study to” if you fancy leaving the PS5 on idle. Plus, the option to change appearance of gear while keeping its stats (i.e. transmog, but way more straightforward) and a high contrast accessibility option will also be added.
Ghost Of Yōtei Complete Edition will be out on October 2 in Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and October 1 everywhere else. Ghost Of Yōtei, unlike its predecessor, is only available on PS5. Check out our review of the game here.
