Amplitude and Hooded Horse have unveiled the first playable faction coming in the new 4X strategy game Endless Legend 2.
Set on a new oceanic planet called Saiadha, Endless Legend 2 will feature different playable factions to the first game, and the first to be unveil is one of them: The Kin Of Sherdyn.
Lore-wise, The Kin Of Sheredyn began as an expedition for an empire, but has now been left stranded on the treacherous planet. And with their leader Commander Garin, the Kin are left to defend for themselves hoping that one day their now-mythical hero will return to save them.
Gameplay-wise, the Kin are built for folks that favour defence and prefer to play tall. They have industrial might and mighty fortifications, making them basically perfect for a turtler playstyle, or those who play 4X games like a city builder and not care much for combat. But the Kin are pretty strong in combat as well, as they have cool units like the Chosen which is essentially a mecha. And the Kin can fire orbital lasers.
The new trailer also shows more gameplay of Endless Legend 2 and has at least confirm the return of a previous playable faction: the Necrophage. Whether they are properly playable or an NPC faction remains to be seen.
Also, take your time and appreciate how clean the artstyle is. The Endless Legend series introduced the district system where cities sprawl across tiles with distinct and readable buildings (something the Civ series soon follow, coincidentally). The Kin’s white walls around their hex tile borders look amazing, and also not too cluttered.
Expect more of these faction deep dives for Endless Legend 2, as well as other video features that cover game mechanics, as the game gets closer to launch.
Endless Legend 2 was revealed back in January 2025 as part of Amplified 2025. Previously owned by Sega, Amplitude has now gone back to being an indie developer and signed a publishing deal with leading indie strategy/sim publisher Hooded Horse for the sequel to one of the most inventive 4X games in recent times.
Endless Legend 2 is coming to Steam Early Access sometime this year.
Early playtesting as part of Amplitude’s Insiders Program is currently available, but you have to sign up here and there’s no guarantee of entry upon signing up.
