Final Fantasy Resonance Will Feature Tough Optional Content For The Completionists

Final Fantasy Resonance can be described in many ways. It’s a HD-2D Final Fantasy game and the rare new Final Fantasy game to still use pixel art. It’s a repackaged version of a defunct mobile game, more precisely an adaptation of the first story arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. But more importantly, it is a Final Fantasy game, and as Square Enix just revealed, it will contain optional content that feels right at home for a Final Fantasy game.

There will be optional content in Final Fantasy Resonance designed for the completionist and those who dare to face tough challenges. This will include optional boss fights, secret dungeons and an appearance of recurring boss that seemingly transcends dimensions.

If you scour the caverns found throughout the world of Final Fantasy Resonance, you’ll find powerful monsters that you don’t need to beat. But if you do (and they should be tough cookies), you’ll be rewarded with magicite, the material to awaken Visions. Visions are the equippable spirits of characters that can alter the party’s stats and skill set, which includes heroes from various mainline Final Fantasy game, up to Final Fantasy XVI (Clive is confirmed to be one of the Visions available.)

You can also attempt to clear high-level secret dungeons. Again, these are optional and are not connected to the main plot, but if you want to test how good you’ve built your party (or you think you’ve grinded a lot and want to see if you can plow through tough content via sheer willpower to do the same thing over and over again), feel free to face what lies in these secret dungeons.

Lastly, Square Enix more or less confirmed that there will be a battle at a big bridge, where a mysterious bladesman awaits. The press release suggest that “this Final Fantasy mainstay will test your resolve in more ways than one,” which either hints that this is a tough optional boss fight, or he’s going to be all goofy as seen in Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and various other appearance. Yes, we’re talking about Gilgamesh.

Though there is another recurring boss fight that will appear in Final Fantasy Resonance that should be the optional boss fight to beat for bragging rights: Ultima Weapon.

Final Fantasy Resonance will be out on October 23 for the PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
