Borderlands 4 Story Pack 2: FL4K And The Last Resort Releases This September Alongside Bounty Pack 5 And New Vault Hunter

A good load of content, mostly paid, will be dropping in Borderlands 4 this September.

First, the next big Story Pack is called FL4K And The Last Resort. This will see the return of another Borderlands 3 Vault Hunter as you team up with them to save their skag companion Mr. Chew from the clutches of the Tediore corporation.

FL4K And The Last Resort will feature a new map, the remote island of Providence, littered with Tediore goons with exo-suits under the control of five elite managers, all under the rule of one Lieutenant Harmony. The map is designed with verticality in mind, with a new traversal option: ziplines. Also, the island is home to a tropical resort, so yes, the title is a pun.

FL4K didn’t appear in the main storyline of Borderlands 4, so only Moze, the last of the four playable Vault Hunters from Borderlands 3, has yet to make a physical appearance in a new game. The Borderlands series has a tradition of bringing over the previous cast of playable characters as NPCs as part of the story, as players take on the role of new Vault Hunters with every new game.

Borderlands 4 is also adding its second playable Vault Hunter to be added post-launch: Loveless the Hacker. Loveless is an ex-Anshin hacker turned assassin. She can digistruct virus into a physical form. She can be purchased separately, or as part of Story Pack 5.

Borderlands 4 will also be releasing Bounty Pack 5: Amara And The Vile Shadows. This small drop of content will feature a new story mission where you team-up with Amara and learn more about the Sirens, in particular the repercussions of main story’s ending which changed her. This is the last Bounty Pack that’s included in the Bounty Pack Bundle, which includes four Bounty Packs—Bounty Pack 1 was a freebie.

Completing this mission unlocks a new Vault Hunter Skin, a Vehicle and an Echo-4 Drone Skin.

Outside of the new mission, Story Pack 5: Amara And The Vile Shadows also adds two new mini-bosses, new Vile enemy types to earn a new Pearlescent weapon and six new Legendary loot.

Available separately, or as a bundle with Bounty Pack 5, is Bounty Pack 5: Vault Card 5. This battle pass-esque checklist will earn you new “spage-age rewards” with 24 cosmetic items and four pieces of rerollable gear to unlock.

Each of the four paid content packs, Story Pack 2, Loveless the Hacker, Bounty Pack 5 and Bounty Pack 5: Vault Card 5 are available ala carte. You can also purchase both parts of Story Pack 2 together (part 2 includes Loveless) and both parts of Bounty Pack 5 (part 2 is Vault Card 5) as a single purchase.

All of this new Borderlands content will be dropping at the same time alongside a version 1.10 update on September 10. This update will raise the level cap of all Borderlands 4 players by 10 levels, so even if you’re not planning to grab any of the new content, you still get something more out of the base game.

The release of all this new content, and a major free update, marks the end of the current post-launch roadmap for Borderlands 4. As promised, there will now be two Story Packs (similar in scope to previous big DLCs), four paid Bounty Packs and two additional playable Vault Hunters, as far as paid DLC goes.

What lies next for Borderlands 4 beyond the currently promised obligations remains to be seen.

Borderlands 4 released last year and the seminal looter-shooter that tries to call itself a shooter-looter (which actually the more sensible subgenre name, but the former has stuck unfortunately) expanded by going full open world, with mixed results. The core gunplay and loot chase is great, and the story not too shabby, which is quite the leap in quality considering what happened with the last mainline game, but doesn’t really stand out as much. It’s another good entry, but doesn’t hit quite as hard as previous sequels had. You can find our review of the base game here.

Borderlands 4 is out now on PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), and Xbox Series X|S.
