Destiny 2’s next expansion, The Final Shape, has a release date.
As revealed in the Destiny 2 Showcase, The Final Shape is the final chapter of The Light And Darkness Saga that began from the original launch of Destiny 1.
The Final Shape will see you journey into the heart of the Traveler, the giant orb that has been part of Destiny’s story since its inception, to defeat The Witness who is attempting to shape the world to his taste.
As part of this finale, you will see familiar faces, including the reappearance of Cayde, join the Vanguard in their biggest confrontation yet.
The Final Shape will add one new Destination: The Pale Heart. This is a linear Destination that is just.. weird. You will see imageries that are reminiscent of the journey longtime players have gone through with this ongoing MMO-ish looter-shooter, and then you’ll see twisted landscapes due to the influence of The Witness.
There will be a new raid with this expansion, and it will be all about confronting The Witness.
The Final Shape will also add three new Supers, one for each class, based on the three Light elementals.
While The Final Shape is the finale of this saga, it’s not the end of Destiny 2. Starting next year, developer Bungie is shaking things up with its seasonal content cadence. Instead of four Seasons a year, The Year Of The Final Shape will see three Episodes split into three acts every six weeks. The first three Episodes, titled Echoes, Revenant and Heresy, will see the story continue to explore the aftermath of The Final Shape.
This year’s Destiny 2 expansion, Lightfall, just ended its second season of four. The new season, Season Of The Witch.
While The Final Shape seems to be geared toward longtime players who are here to witness the end of the story that started almost 10 years ago, Destiny 2 will be updated ahead of this release with some changes to allow new players to play any content without needing to grind to get the right power level, as well as more ways to find like-minded players in-game via Fireteam Finder.
Destiny 2 will take its Final Shape on February 27, 2024. The game is available on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with full cross-play and cross-progression support on all platforms.
