Civilization VI Is Getting A Season Pass For All Platforms

Just when you thought that after a series of DLCs, and then two expansions and a port to consoles, Civilization VI development is wrapping up. Apparently it’s not.

Firaxis has revealed that they will be adding a season pass to Civ VI. The New Frontier Pass will be adding six more DLCs coming in a bimonthly basis.

The DLC includes eight new civs, nine new leaders (so at least one civ gets an extra leader) and new game modes. The first DLC pack will be adding two new civs- the Maya and new-to-the-franchise Gran Colombia. The pack also adds new city-states, resources and natural wonders.

Should you buy the New Frontier Pass, there’s also an all-new Persona Packs. Instead of adding new leaders, these packs change the look and abilities of existing Civ VI leaders. New Frontier Pass owners will get the Persona Packs for Teddy Roosevelt (“Rough Rider Teddy”) and Catherine de Medici (“Magnicence Catherine”), arriving in July with Pack#2.

The full roadmap for the New Frontier Pass is as follows:

  • Pack #1: Maya & Gran Colombia Pack. Adds two new civilizations and leaders, one new game mode*, new City-States, Resources, and Natural Wonders. Available May 2020
  • Pack #2: Ethiopia Pack. Adds one new civilization and leader, one new game mode**, one new District and two new Buildings. Available July 2020
  • Pack #3: Adds two new civilizations and leaders, one new game mode**, new World Wonders, and one new map. Available September 2020
  • Pack #4: Adds one new civilization and leader, one new game mode, new City-States, and numerous new Great People. Available November 2020
  • Pack #5: Adds one new civilization and two new leaders***, one new game mode, a new District, and two new Buildings. Available January 2021
  • Pack #6: Adds one new civilization and leader, one new game mode, new World Wonders, and one new map. Available March 2021

*New game mode requires the Gathering Storm expansion to play

**New game mode requires either the Rise and Fall or Gathering Storm expansions to play

***New leader requires Rise and Fall expansion to play

Some of the content from the New Frontier Pass will require you to own the Rise And Fall or Gathering Storm expansions.

There will still be free updates, like gameplay balances, free content and “other surprises”. You can rule out battle royale, however, because they already did that.

A season pass is no big surprise. But it is for a game that’s already four years old. The New Frontier Pass will be coming to PS4, PC (Steam), Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The first DLC pack will drop on May 21st.
