Windjammers 2, the arcade frisbee throwing battler sequel to cult-hit Windjammers, is shaping up quite well despite the long development time.
Publisher/developer DotEmu has shared a new trailer, revealing another contender from the original Windjammers to join the second game’s roster: Steve Millner.
Alongside that is the reveal of Arcade Mode. For single-player fans, there will be a campaign to go through, with a world map used in the mode.
Windjammers 2 brings the cult-classic original in new life with a gorgeous hand-drawn art-style. Similar to last year’s Streets Of Rage 4, which DotEmu was also involved. But the same tubular flying disc battle gameplay that’s a cross between tennis and fighting games.
Windjammers 2 was originally supposed to release last year, but following fan feedback from the Steam Summer Festival demo, according to the post on Steam here, the devs delayed the release to address issues, including the lack of rollback netcode.
For an input-heavy game like Windjammers 2, that’s the netcode model preferred by fans, and thankfully it will be implemented for the release.
There’s no release date for Windjammers 2 yet, but expect to see it drop maybe this year on PC and Nintendo Switch.
