Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations Announced, New DLC Coming This July

id Software has revealed a new DLC for Doom: The Dark Ages. Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations will see a wounded and betrayed Doom Slayer escape purgatory.

Yes, that’s the Doom Slayer, without the helmet, and without the armour. This rendition of the Slayer that began in Doom (2016) had a face reveal before, but now it’s not locked behind spoiler warnings.

Announced during the 2026 Xbox Showcase, Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations looks to swapping the shield with the Chain Spear which has a “unique combat system” that “rewards master with enhanced power and mobility.”

In practice, as seen in the trailer, the Chain Spear can do just about everything the Shield did, from parrying green projectiles to being thrown as a projectile itself. The Spear and Shield aren’t interchangeable, as the trailer also showed the Slayer making use of both left hand armament in tandem.

But was that a flashback featuring the Doom II shotgun? Taggart? Revelations looks to be living up its name if there’s going to be old Doom Slayer lore.

Alongside the paid DLC release, there will be a free update released for Doom: The Dark Ages to be released on the same date. The Ripatorium 3.0 update adds deeper customization, improved pass code generation, and saving + loading personal presets to create-your-own-arena-shooter-encounter mode.

Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations will be out on July 7 for the PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store) and Xbox Series X|S. Check out our review of Doom: The Dark Ages here.
