Warframe The New War Gameplay Revealed, Featuring Multiple Playable Characters

Warframe’s long-awaited The New War update will be arriving soon. Digital Extremes showcased a live demo of gameplay for the new cinematic quest, which is described as “our most ambitious cinematic quest yet”, at the end of TennoCon 2021.

And it sure is.

The New War should continue the cinematic storyline, now with the Sentient threat invading the whole Origin System. And it’s not just you Tennos that are fighting this new war. The gameplay demo revealed that, you will be playing as different characters outside your Tenno and their warframes.

You will be hopping into the shoes of Grineer soldier Kahl 175, Veso from the Corpus and Conclave enthusiast Teshin during this cinematic quest.

The Grineer and Corpus are two of the main enemy factions where players have took down thousands, if not millions of their grunts. Now you get to be one, both with their human face unobscured by masks or helmets.

Each character have their own unique kit and UI design. Kahl make use of the Grineer’s usual Grakata machine guns and have melee options.

Veso brings up a datapad when he’s radio communicating via radio instead of having the other speaker’s video feed on screen. He also can command and summon the many robotics.

Teshin fights exclusively with his dual-swords that can change elemental powers.

The nearly 30 minutes of gameplay does not show the Tenno playable in any form, interestingly. So at least for this slice of what we see, expect some heavy plot and linear, cinematic sections throughout this cinematic quest.

Warframe is mostly known for its repeatable horde fights with purposely overpowered space ninjas, but its story aspects, while rare, are fantastically well done. Here’s hoping The New War can live up to the heights of The Second Dream when it launches on all platforms later this year.
