Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. Announced, Releasing This Winter

Sega announced a new Virtua Fighter game. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is a new entry for the 3D fighting game based on Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown (the remake of Virtua Fighter 5 running on the Like A Dragon series’ Dragon Engine), and it’s coming to PC.

It’s not full-blown sequel, it is based on Ver. 2.0 of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown which isn’t out yet.

But Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. will feature balance adjustments and “returning techniques”, incorporating 13 years worth of player feedback. VF 5 is that old.

More importantly, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. has rollback netcode, a series first, and improved graphics that allow the game to run at 4K 60 FPS.

The new trailer announcing Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. features the song “Burning Soul”, based on the song “Ai Wa Tsuienai” featured in Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown. The song now has English lyrics, but is still performed by Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, “Japan’s finest singing salaryman” as Sega describes him in a press release. Most of us will know the voice from Daytona USA’s catchy theme song and other Sega games, including Phantasy Star Online 2.

The trailer for Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is the game’s opening cinematic which reveals the cast of fighters, all of them returning from the previous Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown:

  • Akira Yuki
  • Pai Chan
  • Lau Chan
  • Wolf Hawkfield
  • Jeffry McWild
  • Kage-maru

  • Aoi Umenokoji
  • Lei Fei

In addition, Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown on PS4 will be getting a major update, the previously mentioned Ver. 2.0. This will be available this winter (Q1 2025).

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega AM2.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. will be out on PC (Steam) this winter.
