The time to go racing in a galaxy far, far away won’t be long, as Star Wars: Galactic Racer has now locked in a release date.
Published by Secret Mode and developed by Fuse Games (a new team comprised of ex-Criterion Games veterans that worked on racing games such as the Burnout series and Need For Speed Hot Pursuit (2010), that also were in charge of the vehicle handling in the newer Star Wars Battlefront games), Star Wars: Galactic Racer will see players racing in the Galactic League, an unsanctioned racing circuit based in the lawless Outer Rim side of the galaxy. Hence, the more grungy, beat-down aesthetic it has got going, compared to sleek and shiny look as seen in most of the films.
The single-player campaign has players take on the role of Shade where you create your own vehicle in this “runs-based” mode. While the vehicles you race in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, which includes podracers, are more like hovercrafts, you do get to slam, shunt and takedown rivals.
The game also features online multiplayer racing.
No really, the way the slow-mo and camera pan when you wreck a rival should ring a loud bell for fans of fast, arcade racing. The world yearns for a new Burnout.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer will be out on October 6 for the PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S.
