Star Wars Galactic Racer Announced, New Racing Game By Ex-Burnout Devs

A new racing game announcement? At The Game Awards? No, this is podracing. Star Wars Galactic Racer is a new game by Fuse Games and Lucasfilm Games.

It’s a racing game, if you could believe it, set in the Star Wars universe. Not that those never existed, but this is developed by ex-Criterion developers, with talents that worked on games in the Burnout and Need For Speed series.

The trailer shows all kind of vehicles weaving around a desert planet. Jakku, to be exact, the planet seen first in Star Wars The Force Awakens.

Paint is traded, some crashes out, a bumper cam view is seen. Not exactly Burnout or Need For Speed, but these developers did have a hand in developing vehicle physics when making Star Wars Battlefront game (Criterion is a co-developer, and a similar arrangement is seen with their latest work in Battlefield 6 as part of Battlefield Studios). The official announcement on Star Wars also made note of this relationship as how Fuse Games got to work on a Star Wars IP.

In Star Wars Galactic Racer, you play as Shade in this “runs-based” (is it a roguelike?) racing game where you customise your landspeeders and speederbikes to survive through the various races long enough to earn your shot to be an elite racing pilot.

“We’ve drawn real inspiration from runs-based games so the player will have meaningful, consequential decisions to be making on how they chose their path to become an elite racing pilot — from the vehicle they choose to start with, the upgrade choices they make to create a build that really suits their playstyle and what events they select in determining their path to become champion of the League,” said Matt Webster, Fuse Games co-founder (that’s also the recurring name featured on those Autolog videos for Need For Speed Hot Pursuit (2010)).

Galactic Racer will have online multiplayer as well as a single-player campaign.

There was two Star Wars games announcement at The Game Awards 2025, alongside Galactic Racer was the announcement of Star Wars Fate Of the Old Republic, an RPG and successor to the classic BioWare RPG Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic.

Star Wars Galactic Racer comes out in 2026 for PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S.
