Sony VR Headset For PS5 Officially Named PlayStation VR2

Sony has officially revealed the name of its next-gen VR headset for the PS5. Guess what, it’s called the PlayStation VR2. Or PS VR2 for short.

Alongside the name is a reveal of the specs of the headset (still unrevealed) and other features of the previously revealed VR controller, now christen PS VR2 Sense controller.

PS VR2 supports 4K HDR, 110-degree FOV and foveated rendering. The OLED display has a resolution of 2000×2040 per eye and can display at a framerate of 90 or 120Hz.

PS VR2 has inside-out tracking with an integrated camera. No lighthouse or extra external camera setups needed like the early generation VR headsets like the Vive used to have in order to properly track your head movements in virtual reality.

As part of the “PS VR2 Sense Technology” suite, PS VR2 also supports eye-tracking, headset feedback and 3D audio. Headset feedback means there’s a vibration feature built on the headset- that’s something new in this space.

There’s also eye-tracking, where your eye motion is something a game can take account of as an interaction.

The PS VR2 Sense controller, as previously revealed, also has adaptive triggers and haptic feedback plus finger detection.

For games, Guerrilla and newly-acquired PlayStation Studio Firesprite are working on Horizon Call of the Mountain, a new game built for PS VR2.

No date or price has been revealed for the PS VR2.
