As teased previously, the next Gran Turismo 7 update is going live early for the month of August 2026, a week from the usual release window of the last Thursday of each month.
Update 1.71, or the August 2026 update for Gran Turismo 7 primarily adds four new cars. The niche cars series producer Kazunori Yamauchi alluded to when he teased these cars are, as the community has correctly guessed, are two Toyota sedans popular in Japan.
The Toyota Chaser and Toyota Mark II will be joining the growing car list in GT7. These cars are just bog-standard sedans back in 1997, but these days they are regarded as sleepers and are popular among car enthusiasts. You can find sick builds of them. They are even used for drifting. As such, these old Toyotas (as old as the original Gran Turismo as a matter of fact, released in 1997) fit perfectly in GT7.
The other cool car is cool too. The Caterham Seven Superlight R500 is a nice nippy track toy and quite the kit. The choice of words here is intentional as you can order one of these as a kit car, where you can assemble them yourself at home. You won’t be assembling one of these in GT7 obviously, but it’s an obvious addition for open cockpit track cars given the game already has a BAC Mono and a KTM X-Bow. The trailer shows a bit of that shock absorber wobble you’d expect from a car like this.
Finally, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N is a souped-up version of the Hyundai Ioniq 6. Compared to the existing Ioniq 5 N, the Ioniq 6 N is a sedan rather than a crossover. The N version slightly hides the more streamliner shape of the base model with its wings, but it does look racy, for a heavy EV.

Gran Turismo 7 August 2026 Update Other Content
Outside of the four new cars, this is a rather light update, content-wise. Three new World Circuit events, a new Scapes (static photo mode) in Whistler Mountain, Canada and that’s it.
The patch notes for Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.71 can be found here. There’s actually a whole physics and driving model update, which even affects controller players. And yes, this resulted in the wiping of all the leaderboard times, and adjustments to features like license tests and its demos.
Gran Turismo 7 is out now on PS4 and PS5.
