Shin Megami Tensei V Series Sales Pass 1.6 Million Worldwide

Sega has announced that the sales for Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei V series, both the original game and the recently released Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, has exceeded 1.6 million worldwide. The figure includes sales from physical and digital releases.

The original game was released in 2021 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, which previously reported to have sold more than 1 million copies.

The enhanced release for all platforms, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, sold more than 500,000 copies (physical and digital) in the first three days of release alone. And it’s only been out in less than two weeks.

The multi-platform release looks to be a successful one, as Vengeance is halfway there to match the lifetime sales of the original game. It can only get higher, and this shows there is still strong demand for turn-based RPGs.

And Atlus is shipping three RPGs. After Persona 3 Reload (also sold gangbusters) and SMT V: Vengeance, Metaphor: ReFantazio is releasing later this October.

SMT V is a turn-based RPG set in a post-apocalypse Tokyo where a young man joined hands with a proto-fiend to become a Nahobino. They then journey through a conflict between gods and demons, powering themselves by building their own party of demon allies.

With SMT Vengeance, the game is further refined with not only quality of life updates, but a ton of new content including a whole new story route that is just as long as the original story did, 80 hours.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Check out our review of the game here.
