It’s been a hot minute (or technically, two weeks) since the remake of Resident Evil 4 has been out, and after just that two weeks, Capcom has announced that the survival horror title has sold more than 4 million units.
Three out of the four million were from the two-day window of release.
Resident Evil historian Alex Aniel gives some more context for the numbers. Resident 4 (2023 remake) took two weeks to sell 4 million compared to Resident Evil Village’s 3 weeks, Resident Evil 2 remake’s under 2 months, Resident Evil 7’s roughly 9 months and Resident Evil 3 remake’s 12 months.
Resident Evil 5 more or less match Resident Evil 4’s time-to-4-million at around 3 weeks. Surprisingly, Resident Evil 6, the least regarded mainline entry, sold 4.5 million copies on day-1 of launch.
In any case, Capcom certainly did it again in delivering a modern remake of a survival horror classic. Our review matches up with most critics and fans’ reception to the game.
Resident Evil 4, the 2023 remake, is out now on PS4, PS5, PC via Steam and Xbox Series X|S. The Chainsaw Demo remains available for those looking to give the game a shot.
