Relic Entertainment No Longer Part Of Sega

Relic Entertainment, the strategy game developers behind classics including Company Of Heroes, is no longer part of Sega Europe.

The developer announced that thanks to an external investor, Relic will become an “independently-run development studio”.

“We want to thank Sega, whose support over the years and guidance during this transition have been instrumental to our success,” the announcement posted on Twitter reads. ” We may be out of the Sega business, but we remain friends and colleagues.”

Support for Company Of Heroes 3, Relic’s latest release and was published under Sega, will continue, with Update 1.6 scheduled for release in April.

Sega, in a separate statement, also announced some “structural reform” which not only includes letting go of Relic, but also letting go of 240 roles within Sega Europe. The layoffs continues the bleak trend in the video games industry starting in 2023 where companies are rapidly laying off employees.
