C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield Is An SRPG-Roguelike-Deckbuilder Mashup From Octopath Traveler Devs

Acquire Corp., developer of the Octopath Traveler games amongst others, has a new self-published indie title coming out next week. And it’s called C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield.

This game with its rather long title follows Vel, the commander of the Clausewitz Battalion in her fight against Fahftania and the Hellmuth Brigade. And yes, according to the Steam page, C.A.R.D.S. is an acronym. Or a backronym, rather.

C.A.R.D.S. RPG’s gameplay is mashup of so many genres. It has the tile-based movement of a strategy-RPG (i.e. very Fire Emblem-esque). But once combat is initiated it becomes a game of cards where your actions are based on the cards on your deck like a rougelike-style deckbuilder game (i.e. very Slay The Spire-esque).

There are over 100 cards to collect. And the main map exploration is covered in mist so anything can, and will, appear in front of your troops whether that be loot or a hidden enemy ambush or other surprises.

C.A.R.D.S. RPG also features full voice-overs in Japanese and English.

C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield releases on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch on May 23. A demo is available on Steam and Switch.
