Another big esports event is coming your way. The World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) is a massive esports tournament backed by Alisports, part of the giant Chinese conglomerate Alibaba. The WESG is reminiscent of the World Cyber Games, where players all over the world compete to be the country’s best before moving playing at the world stage.
The Malaysian qualifiers are set to begin this weekend, with four different games in play: Dota 2, Counter-Strike:: Global Offensive (CS:GO), Starcraft II and Hearthstone. Winners at the Grand Final will represent Malaysia to the regional qualifiers at WESG Asia-Pacific (APAC).

Former Overwatch pro and coach Dennis “INTERNETHULK” Hawelka has recently passed away at the age of 30. The German has a history of competing in various esports including League Of Legends and most notably Overwatch.
Despite his old age for an esports athlete, Hulk struck big in the hero shooter. He was instrumental at forming IDDQD, the core team that later signed to Team EnVyUs and which now becomes the Overwatch League team Dallas Fuel. He was also the key person who brought in Mickie, one of the players from the very inspiring Thailand team in 2016. KSV (Korea + Silicon Valley) Esports has announced today that they have formed a professional team for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). KSV, who also owned the Overwatch League team Seoul Dynasty, announced the four players- all of them occupying the top 4 rankings in the Korea and Japan server.

Mobile Legends developers Moonton and Astro’s eGG Network has partnered to launch the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL). This will be the first league for the mobile MOBA game in Malaysia and Singapore.
$100,000 USD of prize pool is on offer, with the winner taking home $20,000 USD. This will be a 20-week long league with matches being live broadcasted on eGG Network.
Only 10 teams will be playing in the main league, but to enter that, there will be three open qualifiers- two for Malaysia and one for Singapore.

Mountain Dew has kicked off their third year of the Dew Challenge, the Dota 2 Amateur Tournament. For 2017, the competition is getting bigger as it now includes Singapore, with a prize pool of $50,000 SGD on the line.
The Dew Challenge is where several Malaysian Dota stars were first discovered such as MidOne, now playing with Europe’s Team Secret and VT Faded, now part of Chinese outfit Nga Gaming.
So far, the Kuantan leg of the qualifiers have just concluded, with a few more to come. The qualifiers are as follows:
