Project L Now Known As 2XKO, Releasing In 2025 On PC, Consoles

Riot Game’s fighting game based on League Of Legends IP now has a name. The game formerly referred to as Project L is now called 2XKO. It is pronounced as it is written, as in, you see each of the number and letters.

2XKO will be a free-to-play fighting game that centers on a 2v2 tag-team play. The game can be played between two players like a typical fighting game, or have duo play, where a team of two players control one character each. This should explain the name 2XKO- you need to K.O. two of them to win a round.

2XKO also features streamlined controls and gameplay mechanics.

That said, the game is still designed for the fighting game community (FGC), by developers who have been part of the FGC. The core team behind 2XKO were part of the team behind Rising Thunder, and that team includes the Cannon brothers, co-founders of the premier fighting game tournament in the world, Evo. And the game wants to “bring the rivalry and camaraderie of an IRL arcade to a live service, online game”.

The new trailer showcases the stylish nature of 2XKO, featuring familiar characters from League Of Legends. Plus, they showed a fifth character in action, Illaoi. She’s the one with the tentacles.

2KXO will be showcased at Evo Japan 2024 this April. So those competing there can get a sampler of the game, just like how folks at Evo 2023 did. Riot Games are also working on having online playtesting available later this year. You can sign up for upcoming playtests here.

2XKO is aiming for a 2025 release, is aiming for a release not only on PC, but also on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
