Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Announced, New Expansion Coming To All Platforms Including Switch 2

No you’re reading that right. There’s a new expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2. Yes, it’s called Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen.

Announced during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is coming to Switch 2 alongside a new expansion and free updates. The expansion and updates will be coming to PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S as well.

According to the press release, publisher and developer Capcom says that there are three goals they set in making Dragon’s Dogma 2 better following player feedback: “Enhanced gameplay. Expanded adventures. Enticing value.”

What’s New In Dark Arisen Expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2?

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen (not to be confused with Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, which also includes an expansion to the base game), will add one new region. Thankfully it’s not another swamp island again, but rather the snowy region of Norgan situated in the far north. The third region in Dragon’s Dogma 2 used to part of Vermund, but is now home to “savage hordes and creatures of unbelievable power.” The quest in the region will see players join Eir to unravel the secrets of an undying Fallen Dragon.

In Norgan, players can find Relics, either hidden as treasures or dropped as loot. These can be appraised at the Norgandian Settlement to reveal their true potential as powerful gear with extra offensive and defensive capabilities.

Another new feature to be introduced in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is the Lost Rites. A set of 12 dungeons awaits you with rare equipment as prizes should you able to complete these unique dungeons.

And lastly, Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen adds new ways to customise your Arisen and Pawn with new hairstyles and tattoos.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Getting Two Free Updates Before Dark Arisen Launch

Capcom also revealed that there will be two free Title Updates to arrive before Dark Arisen launches. The first update is set to go live on June 10, today, which will bring quality of life improvements including a reusable Eternal Ferrystone. Fast travel for free! Though you’re still limited in fast travel points, but this addition—which was a quality of life addition that was added late in Dragon’s Dogma’s life—will make the intentionally frictional gameplay more smooth should you opt to use it.

The second Title Update, expected to drop in late August, will include performance improvements (better frame rates!), additional save slots and even more quality of life challenges.

The Switch 2 version launching will be Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, which contains both the base game and expansion (there’s no Switch 2 version with just the base game). Meanwhile, the Dark Arisen expansion on the other platforms are a separate purchase that requires the base game.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 launched back in 2024, and the follow-up to Dragon’s Dogma from 2012. It’s not a direct continuation, but more like the developer got to make Dragon’s Dogma again (the opening title screen in Dragon’s Dogma 2 just reads as Dragon’s Dogma until one reached a specific part of the game.) The original Dragon’s Dogma has a new, better version (this was during the time when some developers still do separate releases for an upgraded version of the same game instead of expansion/DLC/add-ons for a base game) in the form of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, in 2013. That game is later ported to PS4, Xbox One and Switch.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen (for Switch 2), and the Dark Arisen expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2 (for PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S), will be out on October 9.
