PGA Tour 2K21 is a competent, fun golf sim that replicates the sport really well. But it’s also not afraid to get a little weird. And the latest multiplayer mode being added today is just that.
Called Divot Derby, this multiplayer mode has 20 players (or 16 if you’re on Switch) teeing off together at the same time. After that, it’s a race to be the first to make it to the ninth and final hole wins.
The catch? Last place to finish each hole gets eliminated. Once you’re out you can watch the action unfold in spectator mode.
While you don’t see other player’s golfers in the mode, you do get to see their golf balls, all with multi-coloured ball flight trails to further pressure you making that stroke be quick.
At first, Divot Derby sounds like golf battle royale, but a more apt comparison, at least we think so, is golf Fall Guys. Race to the finish, the competition gets thinned out every round with a few remaining to contest for the win. And it’s colourful too.
It’s a wacky mode for sure, and good to see HB Studios (now acquired by 2K) having fun with designing the multiplayer modes.
Divot Derby is available for free in the latest PGA Tour 2K21 free update, which also adds 60fps support on PS4, PC, Xbox One and Stadia.
