New Crimson Desert Featurette Reveals Multiple Playable Characters, Mechs And Crimson Desert

Pearl Abyss is ramping up the pre-release marketing for its upcoming open world action adventure game Crimson Desert with a new series of featurette videos breaking down what in the world does this game offer. And the answer to that continues to inspire awe, there’s so much stuff going on, in a good way.

The first featurette is mainly to share the story setup of the playable character Kliff. The start of Crimson Desert will see his clan, the Greymane, scattered after what was a long period of peace, and now he must reunite and rebuild them. And just like that the video also confirms there will be two other playable characters, each with their own moveset. Both are seen to be wielding firearms.

This medieval fantasy world isn’t shy in portraying some kind of technology, there’s a entire region that’s build around the burgeoning industrialism aesthetic. Which is a good excuse to have automaton enemies and, if you could believe it, pilotable mechs. In a game where you can already triple jump and glide as well as ride a dragon, there are also mechs. You can still ride on horseback if you prefer a more grounded way of travel. And if you sick of travelling, there are unlockable fast travel spots.

On the topic of travel, the featurette provided an overview of the open world’s five regions that makes up the continent of Pywel. And they are Hernand, Pailune, Demeniss, Delesyia and the Crimson Desert. Yes, there is a Crimson Desert in Crimson Desert. That also means there’s a good the variety of biomes: expect at least the contrast of a red desert against the verdant lush forests.

The open world isn’t just there for the sake of it. The featurette makes a great deal of how it rewards exploration. There are secrets to discover, puzzles to solve and collectibles scattered around the continent to collect. And that’s not including the discoveries you can make in town. You need to learn how to fish before you can partake in the fishing mini-game.

Also, throughout the video you can hear some of the recorded voice acting, and it sounds promising. A lot of British accents and swearing are what one would expect from a medieval fantasy open world game like this.

Crimson Desert will be out on March 19 for the PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Mac and Xbox Series X|S. The game has gone gold, so it’s very likely we can expect the game to release on said date.
