Monster Hunter Stories, the Monster Hunter spin-off RPG where you capture and battle monsters, is getting a PC and console release.
Originally released on the Nintendo 3DS, and later ported to mobile, Monster Hunter Stories can now be experienced on more gaming platforms.
Monster Hunter Stories centers around a hidden village that has different customs compared to others in the Monster Hunter world. These Monster Riders form bonds with Monsters and fight together as companions rather than just hunt monsters.
The game later received a sequel, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin, in 2021 on Switch and PC. Coincidentally, Monster Hunter Stories 2 is getting a PS4 port to be released on the same day as Monster Hunter Stories.
The new release of Monster Hunter Stories will feature full voiceovers in Japanese and English, as well as some graphical improvements to the models, textures and lighting. This shouldn’t be a direct port of a mobile game which was previously a 3DS game.
Also, there’s a Museum mode where you can peruse the game’s many developer sketches and listen to the game’s soundtrack.
Also, Monster Hunter Stories on PC and consoles will include Title Update 1.20 and 1.30. These updates were released only in Japan previously, which adds new monsters Teostra, Kushala Daora, and Rajang as well as other content.
Monster Hunter Stories may not be exactly the game to whet your appetite while waiting for Monster Hunter Wilds (you’d better off be playing more Monster Hunter Rise, World, or older titles). But if you’re curious of how a Monster Hunter-themed Pokemon-like RPG plays, give it a try.
Monster Hunter Stories will be available on PS4, PC (Steam) and Switch on June 14. The PS4 version is playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility.
