Metro Exodus is coming to next-gen consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) and an Enhanced Version is coming to PC.
The blog post of the announcement by 4A Games said: “Didn’t think Metro Exodus could look any better? Hold our vodka.”
Metro Exodus was a headline grabber for being one of the first PC games to utilise Nvidia RTX tech for ray-tracing. But with more ray-tracing solutions now available (including ones used on the next-gen consoles), the developers have decided to build a new Fully Ray Traced Lighting Pipeline which brings more optimisations and improvements.
Plus, it makes use of other ray-tracing techs too, so it’s not just locked to those who has an Nvidia RTX card.
For next-gen, expect to see faster load times thanks to SSD (of course), 4K textures and platform-specific features (spatial audio and controller latency improvements on Xbox, haptic features of the DualSense controller on PS5). Expect to see it run at 4K/60fps, with the Xbox Series S aiming for 1080p/60fps with all the ray-tracing graphics. There will also be an FOV slider, the first time for the Metro series.
If you have Metro Exodus on PS4 and Xbox One, you already have the next-gen versions. Metro Exodus supports free next-gen upgrade.
The PC version is getting some love too with an Enhanced Edition. It will utilise Nvidia DLSS 2.0 for those with Nvidia cards, and offers more ray-tracing features like Advanced Ray Traced Reflections. All the features from the PS5/Xbox Series X|S release will also be included.
You will need a ray-tracing capable GPU (either Nvidia or AMD) as a minimum spec to run the Enhanced Edition. “This upgrade is so extensive, it will require a Ray Tracing capable GPU as the minimum spec,” the post reads. “And we will need to deliver this version as a separate product – it is not a simple ‘patch’ to the base game – instead it will be offered as an extra entitlement to all existing Metro Exodus PC players.”
In other words, Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition on PC is a separate release, but will be free to all existing owners on Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG.
Metro Exodus is also getting a port to Mac and Linux too.
No date is given for when Metro Exodus releases for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but the Enhanced Edition for PC is expected to arrive in Spring (Q2) this year.
