Josef Fares’ Studio Hazelight Now Working On Their Next Game, To Be Published By EA Again

"Yeah, we're with EA. It's no problem."

A Way Out developer Hazelight is now in the works of their next game, still under the EA Originals label. The co-op only narrative adventure (with a focus on gameplay) has been selling over 1 million copies and proved to be a success, as mentioned on the EA Play conference at E3.

At Gamelab, Josef “F*** The Oscars!” Fares has confirmed that his studio is indeed working on a new game, still in pre-production. Sepeaking to Eurogamer and VentureBeat, he says: “We’re just in the early pre-production stuff but after this, in four weeks, we’re going to go full production.”

EA may have done a lot of blunders- from the loot box controversy of 2017 to Amy Hennig’s troubled single-player Star Wars game that never came to be- but at least when it comes to their indie games arm, they are doing things right. EA has no control over what Fares and his studio’s vision of the games they are making.

“Yeah, we’re with EA. It’s no problem. It’s super-good support, “ he said.

“I don’t care what publisher I work with it’s going to be the same. This is how I work: I respect the economical aspect but nobody f**** with the vision – it’s very, very important. And they know it at EA now, and they’re super-supportive – super-supportive.”

Hazelight’s next game will continue to explore storytelling through the use of gameplay mechanics- something both A Way Out and Brothers- A Tale Of Two Sons have done exceedingly well.

It will not be a AAA title- something many players have a misconception with A Way Out- but rest assured it will be longer experience. Though Fares himself is not happy with critiques about A Way Out being short yet only 50% of players finished the game.
