Gran Turismo 7 Will Include “Everything That Was Possible To Do” From Gran Turismo Sport

Gran Turismo 7 looks to be the big return for the long-running racing game series that deserved a numbered title. After the big new trailer (and release date) reveal from the PlayStation Showcase 2021 broadcast, a few more pieces of info has been dropped by series producer Kazunori Yamauchi in various interviews with the press.

One new info to emerge from these is the confirmation of the return of not online multiplayer, but also all the features you’d expect from Gran Turismo Sport.

Gran Turismo 7 will contain everything that was possible to do in Gran Turismo Sport,” said Yamauchi in an interview with IGN.

“Everything that had to do with multiplayer will be included in the new game, but at the same time improving its usability, and also the network reliability of those modes as well.”

Gran Turismo Sport, the multiplayer-focused entry to the series available on PS4, added the titular Sport Mode, the fancy name for its online multiplayer suite. And it is fancy. It brings online matchmaking, a ranking system, a penalty system to ensure fair racing (which can be hit-and-miss as developers Polyphony Digital tweaked them over time) and a proper esports circuit endorsed by the international governing body for motor racing, the FIA.

“Gran Turismo 7 will really contain everything that was in GT Sport; there’ll be nothing lost there,” Yamauchi added.

Plus, GT Sport overhauls the photo mode seen in previous games with Scapes Mode, and introduces the Livery Editor. These two features did appear in the latest trailer, confirming their return.

While not confirmed directly, hopefully, “everything” here also includes the list of hundreds of cars and all the tracks already available in GT Sport.

Gran Turismo 7 is set for release on March 4, 2022 for the PS4 and PS5.
