Ahead of its February 2022 release, open-world zombie game Dying Light 2: Stay Human has gone gold, developers Techland announced.
What this means is that a version of the game is ready to launch, with physical discs now ready to be manufactured.
“We are very excited about this and now we can truly feel that this is actually happening! After so many years of hard work we are proudly looking forward to the release of Dying Light 2 Stay Human,” said Tymon Smektała, Lead Game Designer.
However, going gold doesn’t mean all game development is over, it only indicates that a version of the game is now ready for launch. “The fact that the game is done and we hit the gold status two months before the release is a great sign but it doesn’t mean that our work ends here,” Smektała said in the press release.
“There are still some upgrades and tweaks to add, and community feedback to implement, but the base is solid and ready to play.”
Dying Light 2 had some rough development. The game was first revealed back in 2018 and targeted a 2019 release, only to face multiple delays and setbacks. Even with the re-reveal early this year, it was targeting a December 2021 release, only to be further delayed to its now February 2022 release window.
Still, going gold doesn’t guarantee a game is dead-set on meeting its release date, not anymore. We have to blame another Polish developer for ruining that. But fingers crossed the game will be ready for what is going to be a packed month for big video game releases.
Dying Light 2: Stay Human will be out on February 4, 2022, for the PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S as well as Nintendo Switch (via cloud gaming).
