An esports tournament for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds? Organised by Sega themselves? You’d better believe it.
The publisher just announced the first major esports tournament for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds in Southeast Asia, the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Southeast Asia Cup.
400 players from across the region will compete online for an invite to the offline premier event: SEGA x Tiktok Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Southeast Asia Cup. This will be held in Manila, Philippines.
Any player in the region aged 18 and older can register and compete in the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Southeast Asia Cup.
The invite-only SEGA x Tiktok Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Southeast Asia Cup will see a price pool total of $20,000 USD (roughly RM82,000) up for grabs, as well as “special event memorabilia” and Discord titles on the Sega SEA server.
Online competitors will also be getting special Discord titles as well, with top racers getting a special Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds T-shirt, with the most elite of them will receive an invite to the offline tournament.
Here’s the schedule of the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Southeast Asia Cup tournament:

The format of event should be familiar to those who follow the Gran Turismo World Series: a series of online tournaments with the top players getting an invite to a live offline tournament.
Full rules and regulations will be posted on the official tournament website.
Registration for the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Southeast Asia Cup online tournament will be revealed via official Sonic the Hedgehog SEA Facebook, Sega SEA Instagram and Sega SEA Discord at a later time.
It’s interesting to see Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is getting an esports tournament, organised by the publisher themselves at that. But this is just one of many pushes Sega is making to engage with players in Southeast Asia.
Just this year, Sega organised a private launch party for Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties where they invited lucky fans to attend, which game director Ryosuke Horii was its special guest. Sega also recently announced a collaboration with animate to sell Sega and Atlus-themed merch in a year-long campaign, where animate branches here in Southeast Asia are also participating.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds just announced that more free content updates are on the way, with Axel from Crazy Taxi and Amigo from Samba de Amigo joining the fray. A second season pass was announced during the Summer Game Fest which will include collaborations with Godzilla and Neon Genesis Evangelion, as if the wild cast of characters from IPs by Capcom, Bandai Namco, Microsoft and Nickelodeon were not enough already.
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Check out our review of the game at launch here.
