PlayStation has properly unveiled Concord, the upcoming game previously only teased with a few seconds of imagery. And you wouldn’t have expect what it is until you looked up the pedigree behind developer Firewalker Studios.
Concord is actually a 5V5 multiplayer shooter, with specific characters each with different loadouts and abilities. And just look at the gameplay footage and you will totally get why we say it has Destiny and Overwatch vibes.
The movement in Concord, from what it looks in the trailer, has the same pace as Destiny. Look at the floaty jumps. Look at Lennox’s gun, that’s totally a Destiny Hand Cannon with the oomph of the shots, especially when he fans the hammer. Haymar is basically a Warlock and you can see her floating and throwing a line of fire wall to block an entrance.
The game is played mostly in the first person, but some abilities has the camera zooms out in the third person like when dodge rolling. Similar to, yes you guessed it, Destiny.
Firewalk Studios are formed by various industry veterans, some with background working at Bungie and Activision. So that checks out.
What’s hopefully going to stand out for Concord is its characters and team dynamics. Each character has personalities that, judging from the cinematic trailer that’s all vibes no gameplay, really going for that Overwatch style hook. And the objectives aren’t just to kill the other team. There’s six different modes and all of them are technically heists of some sort, it’s just a matter that there’s two competing Freegunner crews that are gunning for the same thing at the same time.
Being a live service game like Helldivers 2 previously, Concord will launch on PS5 and PC on the same date. Unlike Helldivers 2, Concord will require a PSN account to play on PC. Pre-orders will include access to the Beta Early Access, with the ability to invite 4 other friends to play as a full squad.
Concord releases on August 23 on PS5 and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store).
