PlayStation is having a busy June with the release of Stellar Blade on PC and the upcoming release of Death Stranding 2. And today, they just dropped another unexpected “game.”
Well, it can be more than a game.
Called Climate Station, this is developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation) in collaboration with the United Nations Playing for the Planet Alliance. Available on PS5 and PS VR2, Climate Station allows players to see the world and how it’s changed back by real scientific data. If you ever need to see how climate change actually changes the weather and the world, this is an interactive way of seeing the data turned into not only useful information, but also the story of how Earth evolved over time.
Climate Station includes a timelapse of the weather, the shifts of temperature collected from the year 1901 to today, and even Projections of where the world’s climate will end up using models trusted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC).
There’s even a 90 minutes worth of video content that “demystifies the science behind climate change.”
Some would take a stand that climate change is either not real or a political stance. Either way, PlayStation has leverage its expertise in making blockbuster games to highlight a real issue that we on the individual scale may not able to make a difference, but at least be aware of.
Climate Station is now available, free, on PS5 and PS VR2. You can also check out more of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s environmental efforts here.
