Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Out Now

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the debut game by Sandfall Interactive and publisher Kepler Interactive, is out now.

The French-made turn-based RPG with its evocative Belle Époque aesthetic and star-studded voice cast made by a relatively small independent developer is now available on consoles and PC.

In addition, the original soundtrack for the game, all 154 songs amounting to 8 hours long, is now available on streaming platforms.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is set in a world haunted by the chilling powers of the Paintress, who has the mysterious power of erasing all humans above a certain age which she paints. The humans on the island of Lumiere have attempted to fight back, sending out expeditions to eliminate the Paintress, yet the years have passed and the number ticks down ever downward where now only those below the age of 33 can live. And it will tick down to 32 if Gustave and his merry band of expeditioners couldn’t do something about it.

Outside of its fascinating world and striking look and sound, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also is bringing a fresh take on turn-based RPGs. There’s plenty to love for JRPG fans here, but also a lot of profound twists. Most notably the real-time quick-time-events where you must push buttons to not only hit harder, but also dodge, parry and jump over attacks. And there’s an overworld map to explore.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is out now on PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S. Bandai Namco serves as the “exclusive distributor” for the physical release of the game.
