Looter shooter Borderlands 4 was set to release on September 23, but that has changed. It’s now launching on September 12.
It’s another reverse-delay, specifically a reverse-delay to avoid another game that has just locked that release date. September 23 is when Bungie’s extraction shooter Marathon, the new Marathon, launches.
In addition, the promised dedicated State Of Play deep dive showcase for Borderlands 4 now has a date and time. Tune in to PlayStation’s YouTube or Twitch on May 1, 5AM Malaysia Time (+8 GMT) to see what the new game’s all about.
Given that PlayStation is doing a lot of marketing for Borderlands 4, and PlayStation owns Bungie, it would be really funny to see the launch two big multi-platform shooters with some overlap in potential player base on the same day. Especially when PlayStation has vested interest in seeing these two games succeed. We’ve seen what happened to Titanfall 2 when it launched close to Battlefield 1.
Developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K, we sort-of know what to expect from the sequel to Borderlands 3 and the next looter-shooter since Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. A new planet. New Vault Hunters which means new playable characters and skill tree. Bigger and more seamless maps. More verticality. But we don’t what is Borderlands 4 yet.
Unlike during the pre-release hype of Borderlands 3, there was more of a fervor to see a new entry to the series. And the pre-release trailers haven’t quite capture the zeitgeist among gamers.
Maybe that will change after the State Of Play Showcase.
Borderlands 4 is now launching on September 12 for the PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S.
