Borderlands 3 Getting Cross-Play Support On All Platforms Except PlayStation

Looks like Borderlands 3 is getting cross-play on all platforms… at least on platforms that are not PlayStation.

The news comes from Gearbox Software’s boss Randy Pitchford in a tweet.

“Good News: An update for Borderlands 3 has been prepared for release that includes full crossplay support across all platforms,” the tweet said.

“Bad News: For certification, we have been required by the publisher to remove crossplay support for PlayStation consoles.”

Gearbox or publisher 2K has not made this official news yet, or disclose why cross-play is removed from PlayStation.

But, according to those court documents from the Epic Games v. Apple case has revealed, it’s likely that Sony asking for payment to allow cross-play may be something the Borderlands team just don’t want to play ball with.

PlayStation is the only platform to have such a requirement in regards to cross-play, the court documents revealed.

Borderlands 3 has added cross-play between the two PC platforms- Epic Games Store and Steam. This upcoming update that Pitchford teased will allow players on PC and Xbox (Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S) to play together in this looter-shooter game with up to four-player co-op.
