Balsa Model Flight Simulator Rebrands As Kitbash Model Club- Build Your Own RC Models

Four years ago, the original creator of Kerbal Space Program, Felipe Falanghe, announced a new game called Balsa Model Flight Simulator. Today, the game has resurfaced with a new name and a new publisher.

Falanghe has found a new development team called Floating Origin Interactive (in which he is also the lead developer), the game will be published by Curve Games and the game is now called Kitbash Model Club.

No, there are no Gunpla or Warhammer tabletop figures to build here. Rather, the name is evocative of how you can build your own remote-controlled (RC) model- be it planes, boats or cars- made out of various different parts. Or as folks familiar with the hobby calls this practice, kitbashing.

And if you’ve played Kerbal Space Program, you can expect a similar sandbox where you are given a variety of components to make air, sea or land RC vehicles.

Alongside a robust building system, Kitbash Model Club will let you explore the island of Warraway which includes cityscapes (with cars driving around) and beaches. Plenty of cool scenery to try out your latest creation (or kitbashed monstrosity). You can also engage in dogfights, and crash your model into smithereens.

Steam Workshop support will be available as well.

There’s a new trailer for Kitbash Model Club, replacing the old one which has now been made private.

Previously the game under the name Balsa Model Flight Simulator was supposed to be published under The Irregular Corporation, a publishing label under the Tonic Group which includes Mediatonic, the developer mostly known for Fall Guys. Epic Games has since acquired Tonic Group, and it would seem that the Irregular Corporation is not actively publishing new games right now.

PC Building Simulator was another game published by Irregular Corporation, and its recent sequel was published by Epic Games Publishing.

It’s a fascinating turn of events, this announcement. It’s also rather interesting that the sequel to Kerbal Space Program, developed by a new team, just launched into Early Access this year as well.

Balsa Model Flight Simulator was released on Steam Early Access in September 2021. The game is currently unavailable for sale, and it looks like the Steam page will be rebranded into Kitbash Model Club soon (it hasn’t at the time of writing).

Kitbash Model Club will be out sometime this year on PC (Steam).
