Capcom has given a head’s up of a new free game update for Dragon’s Dogma 2 that will arrive coinciding the release of the Dark Arisen expansion on October 9.
Tile Update 4.0 will be adding Hard Mode, for those looking for a challenge. There’s also “a feature that allows players to carry over current saved data and start the game over from the beginning,” which in non-Capcom games would otherwise be dubbed simply as New Game Plus (New Game+).
In short, if you want to start over a new Dragon’s Dogma 2 playthrough, but not from scratch, carry over most if not all items, equipment, level and experience, and maybe even play it on a harder difficulty, you can.
Title Update 4.0 of Dragon’s Dogma 2 will also be adding a new Pawn specialisation, Orienteer. No explanation is given of this yet in the official patch notes.
Alongside bug fixes, Title Update 4.0 also will be adding Enhanced PSSR upscaling on PS5 Pro. On PC, setups with AMD graphics can now use FSR 3 Frame Generation, while Nvidia ones can benefit from the changes of DLSS Super Resolution to version 4.5, DLSS Frame Generation now makin use of multi-frame generation, and the option to enable DLSS Frame Generation even when DLSS Super Resolution is turned off.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 already had a performance-boosting (some would say performance-fixing) update previously, but these improvements that make use of upscaling tech should continue to help in regards to that.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be launching on Switch 2, as well as releasing the paid expansion Dark Arisen. If the title sounds familiar, that’s because it is. The original Dragon’s Dogma also had an expansion titled Dark Arisen. If you haven’t played the game yet, Dragon’s Dogma 2’s title screen starts out by displaying the title as Dragon’s Dogma. This game is set in a parallel universe to the original game, rather than a continuation of the same setting.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen won’t be containing the same content as Dragon’s Dogma, however. The expansion adds a new snowy region on the north side of the world called Norgan, instead of having Bitterblack Isle. New dungeon challenges called Last Rites are added to test players, and for fashionistas looking to recreate their Arisen and Pawn as celebrity lookalikes or other characters in media, there are also new hair and tattoo options added as well in the expansion.
The free game update for Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, launches on October 9. The game is out now on PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S, and will be out on Switch 2 on October 9.
