Tag fighter Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will be getting new content this November. Phoenix Cyclops will be laser beaming fire as the first DLC character as part of the Year 1 Pass.
For the uninitiated, this is indeed Cyclops a.k.a Scott Summers. The iconic X-Men is looking a bit different as developer Arc System Works intentionally picked a version of him that looks different.
Phoenix Cyclops is based on the Avengers vs. X-Men storyline where he was part of the Phoenix Five, which eventually absorbed the other four and turned into Dark Phoenix. Jean Grey is here in spirit. The newer Marvel comics sure have wild stories we’ve yet to see to come unbound from the pages, like this one.
You can sense the dark aura of a pained Phoenix Cyclops, who wished justice for the world but willing to go over the line to seek it, in his voice. Check out the gameplay trailer that reveals his moveset. His English voice actor is Ray Chase.
Producer Takeshi Yamanaka shared a fun factoid on the PlayStation Blog that Cyclops was a leading candidate that would have joined the Unbreakable X-Men. The finalised Marvel Tōkon team consists of Storm, Magik, Wolverine and Danger, so Cyclops was reserved as DLC and made way for two fresh and interesting characters to join the base game roster.
If you prefer a more familiar looking Cyclops, Phoenix Cyclops Classic and Legacy outfits has him done the blue and yellows and the familiar looking visor that fans of Marvel fighting games know and love.
Phoenix Cyclops swoops in to burn the ground in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls on November 2. The game is out now on PS5 and PC.
