Assetto Corsa Rally has a new update out now. Update 0.4 is a little light in content, but it’s looking like good steps which developer Supernova Games (in technical partnership with Kunos Simulazioni), are taking for the rally sim.
The contents in Assetto Corsa Rally are two rally legends from the 1990s. The Peugeot 306 Maxi Kit car has a familiar silhouette and famed for its performance on tarmac surfaces. The other car should have an even more familiar silhouette. It’s the 1993 Subaru Impreza S3 Group A, as driven by the legendary rally icon (in real life and in games), Colin McRae.
Assetto Corsa Rally Update 0.4 is mostly focused on physics and handling improvements. For one, the snowy weather tech introduced in the previous update has now been incorporated into the Alsace and Wales rallies.
As for the physics side, Assetto Corsa Rally has announced it is partnering with Jon Armstrong in helping the development team fine tune vehicle physics and handling. Rally game fans may be familiar with the name, that’s the same person who won the 2018 WRC Esports championship (which used the official WRC games made by KT Racing) that later went on to become a consultant for Dirt Rally 2.0 and later contributed to EA Sports WRC. Armstrong as a pro rally driver has since made it to the top flight, currently competing full-time in the WRC for M-Sport.
The press release credited Armstrong’s feedback in helping the developers make the handling model “more natural for players to manage critical driving dynamics such as wheel lock-up, loss of traction, and driving at the limit” thanks to improvement to tyre models, aerodynamics and suspension physics.
On the topic of esports, it’s also announced that Assetto Corsa Rally will be the platform of choice for the FIA Esports Global Rally Tour in partnership with the FIA, the leading body of global motorsport.
Assetto Corsa Rally Update 0.4 is out now. The game is currently in Early Access on PC (Steam).
