AMD releases a new entry-level gaming graphics card from the Radeon RX 6000 Series (utilising the latest RDNA 2 architecture), the AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT.
AMD is billing this a GPU for 1080p AAA and esports gaming, which now means entry-level or mid-level performance, as higher-end cards can now do 1440p and 4K resolution gaming.
As a new Radeon GPU, the RX 6500 XT features most of AMD’s graphics features including AMD FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling tech), AMD Radeon Anti-Lag (tech that improves response times by reducing latency) and AMD Smart Access Memory (when paired with select AMD Ryzen desktop CPUs and AMD 500-Series motherboards, will give faster access to its GDDR6 graphics memory).
However, the Radeon RX 6500 XT only has 4GB of that GDDR6 VRAM, which means you won’t have access to most ultra-settings textures available in the latest AAA titles, which will require at least 6 or 8GB of VRAM.
That’s half the VRAM available from the Radeon RX 6600 cards, the previous entry-level in the RX 6000 series.
If you only care for high fps count with graphics settings at mid to high settings, which is what AMD is pitching this card for, you should be good.
AMD claims the RX 6500 XT can run games including Resident Evil Village, Call Of Duty Vanguard, Halo Infinite and Back 4 Blood above the 60fps mark at high settings and 1080p resolution, and Apex Legends, a competitive multiplayer title, going up to 91fps on max settings.
You can find the AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT (hopefully, there’s still a shortage of chips currently) at most retailers beginning today from OEMs including ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, SAPPHIRE, XFX for $199 USD (approximately RM833).
