WRC 8, the latest of the official game of the rally series, gets a big new Career Mode. Unlike past games where you are there to compete just as a driver in a top WRC team, this time around you get to build and manage your own.
You can now hire staff members that either work directly on your rally car, or provide support like a meterologist that can predict the weather. Dynamic weather is a new feature in this year’s game, so knowing how a stage evolves is a good asset to prepare for your run.
There is also a skill tree to invest R&D in. This has effects on the car’s performance, reliability, or the team as a whole.
The Career Mode also lets you start either in Junior WRC or WRC 2 before moving up to the new WRC 2 Pro category and then the top flight, WRC.
Lastly, there is a lot more details available for analysis at the end of stages. You can check out other drivers’ time and tyre choices they’ve made and use that information for later stages.
It sure looks like a good step up features-wise, and should keep rally fans- especially the ones that care for the official WRC license- a lot to chew on. 52 teams with 14 different locations, covering over 100 special stages, some stages can go up to 20km long- a good 20-minute run of intense driving there.
WRC 8 will be out in September for the PS4, PC (Steam), Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
