WRC 8 Will Have A Vastly Improved Driving Physics Model

WRC 8, the latest official title of the FIA World Rally Championship, is getting close to release. And we’ve gotten a glimpse of gameplay through two new dev diary videos. The videos served to explain the new improvements developers KT Racing have added to this year’s game. Mainly a better recreation of the official rally stages, and a much-improved physics engine.

The developers are now utilising both reference images provided by rally promoters and satelaiite imagery to recreate a 1:1 representation of the many twisty, dangerous trails you (and the real rally drivers) are navigating through. Dynamic weather effects also play a part in not only making the stages from different countries stand out, but changes how you approach your driving and car set-up.

On the physics side, car differential, transmission, tyres and grip based on various surfaces are now improved. KT Racing has consulted with real rally teams, PH Sport and Citroën. Cars with different drivetrains- two-wheel or four-wheel drive- should feel more different now.

WRC 8 looks like a good step up, should all the improvements work as intended. This year’s game will also include a career mode where you manage your very own rally team.

WRC 8 will be out on September 5th for the PS4, PC (Epic Games Store) and Xbox One. It will also be coming to Switch in October.
