Bloodhunt, the battle royale game based on the Vampire: The Masquerade and the World Of Darkness IP, and the first game by Sharkmob, will stop being in active development.
“Ever since launch, we have been on a journey to excite and delight our players, however, while we have an amazing and very engaged community, we haven’t been able to reach the critical mass needed to sustain development,” the announcement reads.
Bloodhunt first released on Steam Early Access in September 2021, and left Early Access in April 2022 to coincide with its launch on PS5.
However, servers will remain active “for as long as we have an active player base and community”. The developers will be turning off real currency purchases on September 26, and allowing players to unlock already available cosmetics by making in-game tokens drop more easily.
There will also be an in-game player voting system that will regularly unlock new things for the remaining player base.
More details of how that works will be revealed in the last planned content update for Bloodhunt. Further updates will only be patches related to maintenance.
The battle royale genre boom has died down, and unfortunately, Bloodhunt was not able to garner a large enough active player base to keep it in active development. This might also have to do with the gameplay not standing out enough against the sea of many other battle royale games.
Between this and the release of Redfall met with tepid reception from critics and fans alike, it’s a bad month for vampires in video games.
Bloodhunt, for now, remains available on PC and PS5.
