Glyphica: Typing Survival is a fascinating case of a genre-blend. On first glance, this is another typing game, something like Needy Streamer Overload: Typing Of The Net, The Chef’s Shift, and Typing Of The Dead.
But Glyphica blends that typing mechanic into a reverse bullet hell/bullet heaven/roguelite survivors. So instead of just moving around to mow down enemies like you’re mowing down grass, it’s a test of typing accuracy as you keep typing single words. And boss fights has you type a whole paragraph. But you do get weapon upgrades along the way.
Pair that with a purposefully minimalist art style and a thumping techno beat that drones in the background, also purposefully, and you get a fascinating indie game by one-person Singapore-based developer aliasBlack and published by Philippines-based publisher Squeaky Wheel.
Glyphica has been out in Early Access since October of last year, currently accumulated over 30,000 players. A new update for the game just went live last weekend which adds stat-tracking. Now you can see your WPM and accuracy of your last 10 runs. Plus a few more additions, the which you can read more here.
Also, the game currently has localisation in Indonesian, with plans to add more languages from Southeast Asia soon.
Glyphica: Typing Survival is currently in Early Access on PC (Steam).
