EA and Maxis have released a post outlining the future of The Sims, and in their words, the future is Plumbob Green. As the series hits its 25th anniversary next year, expect to see more The Sims 4, the next The Sims game codenamed Project Rene, and more. Likely with the new, refreshed The Sims logo.
But what’s more interesting is that the team making The Sims are looking to test out new features via The Sims Labs. This is an insider program where anyone can sign up and have a chance to playtest upcoming new “The Sims products”. The vague, rather marketing-speaking term is used because the program covers different games.
Signing up for The Sims Labs is how you can have a chance to test out Project Rene. An upcoming small test is looking for players to try out multiplayer where players are on a ahsared location.
Other than that, new features for The Sims 4 are being tested out too. Enhancements to search tools is mentioned in the announcement blog post. The Sims Labs even cover the mobile game as well.
Between the new Skate and The Sims, EA really is looking for players to help shape the future of their games, which is an interesting move given the reputation the publisher has had among core gamers.
New The Sims Movie And MySims: Cozy Bundle Coming To Switch
The blog post also confirms the existence of a movie based on The Sims (please, please have all the actors speak Simlish) and a reminder of the previously announced MySims: Cozy Bundle, a “retro re-release” of Wii-exclusive MySims and MySims Kingdom for the Nintendo Switch.
EA for the longest time was very hesitant on the idea of remakes and remasters, let alone ports and re-releases. Ever since the Dead Space remake and Mass Effect Legendary Edition and now this, it’s safe to say they have changed their stance on this.
The Sims is a massive franchise and IP for EA, The Sims 4 has over 80 million players as stated in the same post. And you can expect to see the virtual dollhouse/life simulator/”god game” continue to be present in 2025 and beyond.
