Mass Effect Legendary Edition Will Have Two Graphics Mode On Consoles – Xbox Series X Can Run At 120fps

A new blog post by Bioware has shared some new details for its upcoming Mass Effect trilogy remaster, the Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

This is in regards to graphics options on consoles. These days, consoles can have a toggle should they prefer higher framerate (performance) or better resolution (quality). Mass Effect Legendary Edition will offer the same two graphics options for the PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

Here’s a quick rundown of what “favour quality” and “favour performance” means for each console:

Favour Quality

  • PS4: 30fps, 1080p
  • PS4 Pro: 30fps, 4K
  • PS5: 60fps, 4K
  • Xbox One: 30fps, 1080p
  • Xbox One X: 30fps, 4K
  • Xbox Series S: 30fps, 4K
  • Xbox Series X: 60fps, 4K

Favour Performance

  • PS4: 60fps, 1080p
  • PS4 Pro: 60fps, 1440p
  • PS5: 60fps, 1440p
  • Xbox One: 60fps, 1080p
  • Xbox One X: 60fps, 1440p
  • Xbox Series S: 60fps, 1440p
  • Xbox Series X: 120fps, 4K

Note that framerates are listed as “up to” those numbers, as in, it may have framerate drops making it fall short from the targeted framerate.

Interestingly, the Xbox Series X can output up to 120fps with the PS5 capped at 60. If you want all the frames when playing on a console (and have a higher refresh rate monitor/TV), the Xbox Series X is the way to go.

But if you have a PC, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is capped at 240fps, with extensive graphics options.

The game technically won’t run native on the next-gen consoles, there’s no specific PS5 or Xbox Series release, so it’s running on backwards compatibility which the next-gen consoles support. So it’s nice to see there’s still some added benefit in terms of performance despite it running via back compat.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition will also sport some extensive gameplay tweaks, in particular for Mass Effect 1 so that’s more in line with the rest of the trilogy.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition will release on May 14 for the PS4, PC (Origin) and Xbox One, and PC (Steam) on May 15 for Asia. The game is playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S via backwards compatibility.
